Speed limits to change on select UAE roads
The police are considering changing speed limits to better manage traffic and prevent accidents.
Ras Al Khaimah police are considering changing the speed limit on select roads in to manage the flow of traffic.
Ahmad Al Sam Al Naqbi, Director of the traffic and patrols department at RAK Police, said the move is in response to several public complaints about speeding drivers on internal roads.
The traffic and patrols department is to reduce speed limits on these roads in collaboration with the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and the Department of Public Works, he added.
“The department is also working on some feedback from drivers about the speed limit of some roads, including the Rams Khor Khweir road.”
The speed limit on this road is 120kmph, however the road sign says 80kmph, he elaborated.
“This was actually a local road, but has been developed into a federal road, and hence the speed limit has been changed.”
The traffic and patrols department has immediately changed the speed limit entered into the fixed and mobile radars on this road to fit the new limit, he revealed.
“The ministry of infrastructure development has also been asked to change the speed limit road signs so that drivers are aware of the new speed limits.”
